Alpha lipoic acid – the most powerful antioxidant

Alpha lipoic acid – the most powerful antioxidant

09.12.2013

Alpha lipoic acid is not found in large amounts in foods, but can be assimilated in spinach , broccoli , peas, yeast, Brussels sprouts and meat (especially animal organs ).

Scientific research proved that alpha lipoic acid has properties to improve disorders of neuropathies, including those occurring in diabetes. Alpha lipoic acid acts as an antioxidant in aqueous and fatty tissues, so it can reach nerve cells and can protect from damage. For brain functions – alpha lipoic acid can pass the blood-brain barrier, a wall of small blood vessels and cell structures to the brain. Thus, both protects brain and nerve tissue and prevents free radical damage.

Mechanisms conferring these protective properties against diabetes complications are blocking protein glycation and aldose reductase inhibiting the enzyme involved in the conversion of galactose to glucose and sorbitol. The accumulation of sorbitol is involved in the pathogenesis of many complications of diabetes, such as diabetic neuropathy, retinopathy and microcirculatory disorders. The great advantage of the alpha lipoic acid is to be a pathogenetic treatment of diabetic neuropathy and not only symptomatic, being undoubtedly the most widely used drug for this therapeutic indication. In addition to this, the side effects of treatment with the alpha lipoic acid usual dose is reduced, as compared to other medications symptomatic diabetic neuropathy. From our products’ portfolio SUN WAVE PHARMA presents  TIOLIN COMPLEX that helps in relieving the disorders of the nervous disorders and neuropathies. TIOLIN COMPLEX is administered at a dose of 2 capsules per day and one capsule contains: alpha lipoic acid, 300 mg borage oil 22% gamma-linolenic acid -247.5 mg, vitamin E – 7.5 mg, vitamin B5 – 4,5 mg, vitamin B6 1.5 mg vitamin B2 – 1,2 mg, vitamin B1 – 1,05 mg, selenium – 25 mcg.
