Digestion and Indigestion
In humans, digestion begins in the mouth, continues into the stomach and then continue later in the small intestine where absorption of nutrients occurs also (only alcohol is absorbed earlier, in the stomach!). Full digestion lasts, depending on the nature of the food ingested, about 33-42 hours and its purpose is to turn all complex substances from food into simple, small molecule – called nutrients – which can be absorbed from the intestine and used by the body.
Digestive secretions that help digestion are:
· Gastric juice
· Pancreatic juice
· Intestinal juice
All these secretions (except bile) are normally rich in digestive enzymes, and ensure digesting food.
But as we get older, our organism secretes fewer and fewer digestive enzymes. Enzyme activity can be reduced by stress, diseases (acute or chronic) or burnout. The major symptoms that indicate an enzymatic failure are: heartburn and acid regurgitation, indigestion, heaviness in the stomach, belching, bloating, gas, fatigue after rest (chronic fatigue), diarrhea or constipation , food intolerance , malabsorption, loss of appetite, etc.
The main causes of indigestion are large meals, eating too fast, not chewing food well, foods like fast -food or those that contain much fat, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, eating very spicy foods, emotional trauma, anxiety, stress, cholecystitis, acute or chronic gastritis, acute or chronic pancreatitis, duodenal or gastric ulcer and medicines such as antibiotics, aspirin and anti – inflammatory drugs .
Often called dyspepsia, indigestion is a term used to describe a feeling of fullness or discomfort during or after a meal. It can be accompanied by burning or pain in the upper stomach.
What to do in case of indigestion?
You can use digestive enzymes supplements to ease digestion and allow food intake to advance in the intestines, after being broken down into smaller molecules, which will reduce to extinction unpleasant symptoms of indigestion.
ZIMEZ from Sun Wave Pharma is the most complete and effective formula of digestive enzymes, having 12 digestive enzymes in its composition that help digest all foods, completely (proteins, fats, carbohydrates, dietary fiber), combating indigestion and symptoms associated with insufficient digestion (abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, vomiting, regurgitation or feeling of fullness and early saturation during meal) and contributing to the health of the entire body.
